I am a Colorado native and have made Steamboat Springs my home since 1980. I married Gary, my high school sweetheart in 1973. We have two grown children who live in other parts of the world.
I kid about my “real job” at Routt County and my “fun job”, my business By “George” Stained Glass.
I have always loved stained glass. When we moved into our present home, I finally had the room to start my dream of working glass. I took classes from Joanne Mueller at Creative Stained Glass in Steamboat Springs and even worked there in the evenings. I kept getting more and more involved. The next logical step was to start my own business and do art shows. The name, By “George” Stained Glass just came naturally as my nickname has been “George” since Junior High.
I taught Stained Glass at Colorado Mountain College for over 15 years. My love of glass is one I wanted to pass on to others. Stained Glass may be an art to some, but it’s the craftsmanship that I want to emphasize. A good piece of stained glass should last a lifetime.
I really love creating lamps. It’s that special look when you turn the light on and the lamp comes to life. Incorporating Brazilian Agates and bevels truly makes my lamps – “one of a kind”. Each lamp is unique as the agates can never be duplicated. You actually have six or more mini windows to choose from when you look at your lamp.
I hope you enjoy my work. I love to create pieces that will last a lifetime and bring beauty and joy to those who see them. That’s what it’s all about.
Stained glass is a beautiful window to the soul. It just needs to be expressed.
