John Brassell grew up in the beautiful town of Steamboat Springs where he became interested in art at an early age. That initial interest was turned into a passion by one of his teachers, Richard Galusha, member of OPA. Once John was aware that it was possible to be wholly engaged in art to the point of making it a lifestyle, he couldn't turn back. He owes much of his artistic development to his time being mentored by Richard Galusha, and currently studies the methods of Richard Schmid and David Leffel. He is inspired by the works of old masters like Diego Velazquez and Rembrandt. John tries to represent life as he sees it on canvas in a way that no photo print could capture. Painting Alla Prima, or from life, is his preferred method
